In 2008, LucasFilm tried their hand at a new tale in the Star Wars universe. A semi-continuation and rework of the previous series of animated shorts titled Star Wars: Clone Wars, this tale centered mostly around the day-to-day struggles and battles between the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) and the Galactic Republic's armies, with the Sith backing the CIS and the Jedi leading the Grand Army of the Republic. This show would go on to last a solid five seasons on Cartoon Network before ending and being revived the following year for one last season on Netflix. This would be the last that we hear from The Clone Wars until after the Disney purchase of the LucasFilm brand.
About a year ago, Disney announced a revival of the series with one final season to finish off the story and tie it into the end of the Clone War. With May 4th being Star Wars Day, what better opportunity to complete the story of the Clone Wars?
After several seasons of character development for both new character and old, we're given a chance to become attached to those that are only shown in the prequel trilogy and never given a chance to speak or add to the story. The show features a variety of arcs that explain back stories, plot points glanced over in the films, and make the overall galaxy feel more alive.
And now we come to the climactic finale to the story, twelve years after the story began with a cinematic release that was the equivalent of approximately four episodes. Experience the training of Ahsoka Tano, padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker, as she learns the ways of the Force and of war. Learn how the clones develop bonds to each other and the Jedi that they serve under. And behold even more diplomatic babble than the prequels had, but this time, we get to know more about the senators that propose everything, from their connections to either the CIS or the Republic to their encounters with bounty hunters trying to ransom something to them to sway votes. Though, these are really just the focus of the earlier seasons. with the later seasons focusing more heavily on the Jedi.
Overall, the series is a great addition to the lore of the Star Wars universe! I'd say it's one of the best television series to come from the franchise. The show is now available in its entirety on Disney+.
