With the MCU 's first television show about to go into its final season, now would be a good time to look back on how Marvel Television got started.
Have you ever went through the MCU films and wondered "What happens between the movies in this universe?" Starting shortly after the events of The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and running in tandem with the events of the films, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. shares the story of a small group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents led by Phil Coulson, played once again by Clark Gregg. Experience the lives of these agents as they deal with Iron Man 3's Extremis, deal with the aftermath of Thor: The Dark World's destruction in London, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier's fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the reveal of Hydra. Uncover mysteries such as how Coulson survived being stabbed by Loki in The Avengers and the back story of the mysterious Skye, a Rising Tide hacktivist who tries to protect super-powered individuals from S.H.I.E.L.D. only to then realize that they are trying to help them, not just imprison them.

Due to the show running in tandem with the films, sometimes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. builds up hype for film events leading up to the film's release in theaters, sometimes it picks up shortly after the events, and sometimes they just gloss over the events in a mention or nod. Either way, to fully understand the references made in the show, it's designed to be watched by fans of the films. However, just because that's how it's designed, it doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by those who haven't kept up with the films. There are many films that don't even get referenced in the show as it is, but the major conflicts like the Battle of New York, Ultron dropping Sokovia, the Civil War between the Avengers, and the deaths of certain characters in the films are all brought up as plot points from time to time. Even though these are all heavily discussed in the show, they try to accommodate the viewers by explaining the events there as well, for the people not interested in watching a separate film to understand what's happening in their show.
Also, because this is a television show, they are able to pull characters from the vast reaches of Marvel Comics history that may not work in the films as well as some more recent and well-known characters. A few that can be seen through the show include the likes of Absorbing Man, Lorelei, Deathlok, and a wide variety of lesser-known Inhumans. As well as some popular faces from the films, such as Maria Hill, Nick Fury, Peggy Carter, and the Thor franchise's Lady Sif.
Overall, the show is a blast, with a great cast of lovable characters, interesting villains, flying and flaming cars, fun action sequences, and plenty of times that could pull on your heartstrings. But like every other show that runs as long as it has, it does have its flaw, its rough seasons, etc. Yet by all means, give it a try! Who knows, you might end up liking it after all. As for me, I'm ready for season 7 and what I'm sure will be a thrilling finale to a great ride!
