Growing up I remember hearing so much acclaim for "Cowboy Bebop", but I only recently got to finally sit down and experience the anime fully. And wow, was I surprised and entertained!
"Cowboy Bebop" is a space western, following the thrilling adventures of a ragtag group of misfit bounty hunters who cross paths and reluctantly decide to work together to survive: the charming but mysterious Spike and his partner, ex-cop Jet, the headstrong con artist Faye Valentine, young hacker Edward, and an intelligent Corgi named Ein. The crew lives aboard the spaceship Bebop, tracking down intergalactic criminals to earn credits and make a living.
I haven't watched much anime in my lifetime so far (besides Studio Ghibli films), but this is definitely one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. While it only ran for one season before it was canceled, I can certainly see how it has left a lasting, memorable impression and helped revolutionize and inspire popular culture after its release and to this day. "Bebop", with its gorgeous animation, pulls us into a fascinating, dangerous but beautiful world and gives us these unlikely heroes to root for. We get to know the crew more as the anime delves into each character's story and how they came to be. This show is fast-paced, smart and witty, with lots of humor, a surprising amount of heart and emotional depth, exhilarating and kinetic action sequences, and an unforgettable toe-tapping soundtrack.
I would highly recommend anyone to check out "Cowboy Bebop"; it may be a short ride, but it's a blast! The complete series is available to rent at the LARC Media & Gaming Lab, and is also available on Hulu and DVD/Blu-ray! Come hop aboard the Bebop!
