Film Review: "Palm Springs"

Cristin Milioti and Andy Samberg star in the 2020 film "Palm Springs".

Do you ever feel like you're just stuck in your life? Like everyday is the same old, boring routine? Nobody knows this more than Nyles (Andy Samberg), a carefree but unhappy slacker who is attending the wedding ceremony of his girlfriend's sister. Nyles feels lost in his current relationship, but he discovers a kindred spirit in another guest at the ceremony, Sarah (Cristin Milioti). The two begin to develop a connection, however one weird incident, involving a portal inside a mysterious cave, reveals Nyles' biggest secret to Sarah: he has been reliving the same monotonous day over and over again. Now that Sarah finds herself caught in the same time loop, her and Nyles and Sarah try to find sense and meaning in their lives and their futures knowing that there may not be a way out.

While the time-loop trope has been used very frequently in films (see "Groundhog Day", "Happy Death Day", "Edge of Tomorrow", among many), "Palm Springs" manages to still feel fresh and original, delivering loads of laughs and a lot of heart in this clever, memorable sci-fi romantic comedy. Produced by the wickedly talented comedy trio the Lonely Island, the film boasts a consistently surprising and sharp script, and main stars Samberg and Milioti both shine and have incredible chemistry together. I enjoyed every minute of it; it's a nice breath of fresh air and a fun escapist piece of entertainment. "Palm Springs" is available to watch on Hulu today, go check it out!
