Film Review: "One Night in Miami"

Leslie Odom Jr., Aldis Hodge, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Eli Goree star in "One Night in Miami" (2020).

"Change is gonna come," sings legendary artist Sam Cooke in this dazzling fictional tale of four real-life pioneers of black history. Based on the play by Kemp Powers, "One Night in Miami" is set in February 1964, during one unforgettable night when activist Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), singer Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.), boxer Muhummad Ali (Eli Goree) and NFL football player Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) meet in a small motel room to discuss their lives, ideologies and views of the rapidly changing world around them during the Civil Rights Movement.

Actress Regina King (HBO's "Watchmen, "If Beale Street Could Talk") puts her talent behind the camera this time, in her directorial debut that proves to be quite the remarkable one. The cast is without a doubt the film's strongest element, as all four actors give lively, spirited and unique performances, particularly Ben-Adir. Along with its excellent screenplay and King's strong direction, "One Night in Miami" is an important, genuinely moving and relevant story even in our modern times, that encompasses and embraces standing up for change and equality in our broken world.

I would highly recommend and encourage you to experience this film! It is available to watch on Amazon Prime today.
