Game Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

It's hard to believe that it has already been almost 9 years since the release of Skyrim for the previous generation of consoles, and yet it almost feels like it's been around for much longer than that. With a massive open world to explore and some really fun side stories, it could probably last a good long while before we even need another installment in the franchise. That being said, while the DLC and faction quest lines are fun and all, the main story arc of the Skyrim Civil War seems to be lacking.

Introducing the world of Tamriel to a new foe with the rise of the dragons, and continuing to build off of the lore laid down from the previous installments of the game franchise, the storytelling and characters are top notch. However, even the most well-written story can have errors and holes, and even the most worked on game can have issues. The biggest issues facing Skyrim when it initially released in 2011 were the abundance of glitches and bugs found while playing through the game. Over the years, through patches, DLCs and re-releases, Bethesda has ironed out most of the game and it's now a pretty complete package. And if the base game isn't enough for you, there's a very active and productive modding community constantly adding new adventures and features to the game.

There's not much more to say on the game. If you like fantasy in a similar vein as Lord of the Rings, fun stories, and and open world open for adventure, give Skyrim a go. It may be just the game you're looking for in these isolating times!
