From Stage to Screen: "Hamilton"

Disney+ gave us all a surprise this year on July 4th, when they unveiled a filmed recording of the original 2016 production of Broadway's smash hit musical "Hamilton", now available for everyone to see on their streaming service. I was beyond thrilled, as I have tried to see the show live but was unable to, mainly because it was so popular and always sold out.

I got the chance to finally see "Hamilton" last weekend for the very first time on screen and it absolutely lived up to the hype in every way. It is a truly great and unforgettable show.

"Hamilton", told entirely in verse and song (sung in various genres such as hip-hop and R&B) details the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda), and follows his fateful journey in becoming one of America's most famous, albeit flawed, figures in America's history.

Although it certainly is a different experience seeing a Broadway show on a computer screen or TV rather than live and in-person, the cameras still effectively captured the grandiosity of the stage, allowing us to see from every angle. The set and costume designs are remarkable and the choreography of the performers during the musical numbers is flawless. With memorable music and great writing from lead actor Miranda, the show is both hilarious, heartfelt and emotionally gripping. The diverse cast is incredibly talented and they are all exceptional in their performances, with some actors even playing multiple roles.

The universally acclaimed, Tony Award-winning show is definitely worth seeing, and it's a real treat being able to see "Hamilton". The coronavirus has impacted many aspects of life but it has even impacted the work and dedication of these phenomenal performers and theatre crews. It's a great reminder to always support theatre talent, both on and off-stage! I can't wait until we are all able to see these wonderful productions live again! But in the meantime, enjoy "Hamilton", on Disney+, today!
