Love can really suck sometimes. Especially when your boyfriend is the Joker, who dumps you to continue his reign of terror in Gotham. Fresh from her breakup with the clown crime lord, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) begins a new life of freedom and excitement, but finds herself caught up in the life of crime once again when she meets young Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco), a plucky street pickpocket who is on the run with a priceless diamond from the villainous Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor). As a price is placed on both of their heads, Quinn and Cain cross paths with the vigilante Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), headstrong cop Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), and the mysterious femme fatale Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), who all realize they have no choice but to work together and take the fight to Sionis and his gang of cronies.

DC has been on a roll and "Birds of Prey" proves that the comic-book film industry is alive and kicking, and still has plenty of exciting things in store for its audiences. Despite its title, this is very much Harley Quinn's film, and Robbie shines in the role, providing lots of wit and charm as the protagonist and narrator of the story. The supporting cast is excellent as well in their own roles and they have great chemistry together, with McGregor in particular providing a terrifying, memorable performance as the antagonist Sionis, a.k.a Black Mask.

While it lacked a bit in its rushed tone, I really enjoyed "Birds of Prey". It's really great and long past its due to finally see more female representation and diversity in comic book films, both on and offscreen leading the charge, and this movie is an awesome example. "Birds of Prey" features plenty of thrilling action sequences, as well as vibrant cinematography, incredible costume and set design, and a brilliantly clever and surprising script. Director Cathy Yang delivers a hilarious, action-packed, fun and satisfying thrill ride that is sure to delight fans of the comics and moviegoers alike.
