The "Inktober" Art Challenge

In 2009, artist Jake Parker created a daily art challenge for himself to develop his skills on paper. This challenge, which he called Inktober, unexpectedly became a massive trend and phenomenon that many artists from around the world joined in on, and it remains popular to this day!

The Inktober challenge, held every October, provides a list of daily, single-word prompts which artists are encouraged to follow and create their own original works based on each word. The rules are simple: each work should be done in ink, and then posted on social media for others to see, using the hashtag #inktober. Besides those rules, it's mainly just a challenge for us to use our creative skills and create something beautiful with it! I have known about this challenge for some time and have seen it on social media for quite a while, but only this year did I decide to give it a go myself and see what I could create!

Below is the official 2020 list of prompts for Inktober:

I know it's a week in already, but there's always time to catch up! And you don't have to do every single day if you don't want to! This challenge is intended to inspire and motivate us to use our imagination and work on new creations!

And if you're up for a different challenge, there is also the Inktober52 challenge, which involves creating a drawing from a prompt once a week for the entire year; that's 52 drawings!

Here is the link to the official website, where you can find the rules (explained by the creator of Inktober), frequently asked questions, merchandise, social media pages, and much more!

I really have enjoyed taking part in the Inktober challenge so far and I have had a blast making artwork daily and pushing myself to my creative limits! If you decide to take part, I hope you have fun as well! :)

My entry for the first day of Inktober, inspired by the prompt "Fish".
